I I

2023

Artist book

12x17 cm

The currency of “I” is continued in “I I” as a manifestation of the work’s cycle. During this commute between recollecting and forgetting, “Not only our memories, but the things we have forgotten are ‘housed.’”* Here, the function gets lost by deactivating words and leaving only the word “I” from a written context to be found.

The book utilizes the repetition of the passage May 31 from Kierkeegaard’s “Repetition and Philosophical Crumbs” in English and Danish, legible in two directions.

One cannot but question; where does “I I” settle? Is this the only word left to utter and hold onto tight so as to not lose tangibility or is this the space where what is forgotten through repetition is housed?
